Vice President JD Vance said President Trump has offered Iran what he called a "Trumpian grand bargain" — abandon nuclear weapons and the US will make the country economically prosperous.
Speaking at a Turning Point USA event at the University of Georgia, Vance laid out the terms. "If you guys commit to not having a nuclear weapon, we are going to make Iran thrive," he said. "We're going to make it economically prosperous, and we're going to invite the Iranian people into the world economy in a way they haven't been in my entire life."
And that's the kind of Trumpian grand bargain that the president has put on the table.
Vance said the administration will "keep on negotiating and try to make it happen because it would be great for the world." Deutsche Welle, Africanews, and Times Kuwait reported the remarks, which circulated on X after a user tagged Tucker Carlson and asked whether he believed the statement.
The offer follows US-Iran negotiations in Islamabad, Pakistan, where Vance led the American delegation. Those talks ended without a deal and took place amid a fragile two-week ceasefire following roughly 40 days of US-Iran military conflict.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei responded by saying Iran is capable of achieving prosperity through its own efforts and dismissed US sincerity.
