Trump links flydubai co-pilot to Iran

Trump says 'based on what I'm hearing' the co-pilot accused of trying to crash the plane has Iran ties. No evidence came with it, and Israel's defense minister has called the incident a jihadist attack attempt.

Trump links flydubai co-pilot to Iran

President Trump told Fox's Peter Doocy that the flydubai co-pilot who allegedly tried to crash a plane is linked to Iran. He offered no evidence.

"Based on what I'm hearing, the answer is yes."

That is Trump's answer, as posted on X by Sean Hannity's account. The clip names no source for what he is "hearing." It cites no document, agency, or official assessment.

Developing, unverified: the Iran link is Trump's claim alone. Nothing in the coverage gathered here includes an intelligence assessment, an airline statement, or a government confirmation of it.

Here is what the other coverage does establish. The conservative outlet Washington Free Beacon, in what reads as a first-person commentary piece, describes a flydubai Boeing 737 flying from Dubai to Tel Aviv with about 174 people aboard. It says the plane started rapidly losing altitude and the cabin lights went out. According to the piece, flight data indicate it dropped about 14,000 feet in about 30 seconds.

Passenger Adam Polo told Fox News that people near the cockpit shouted about a stabbing and blood everywhere. He said about 10 men jumped to help, and three or four entered the cockpit and took control after a couple of minutes.

Passenger Yaniv Hayun told The Free Press that he and others physically fought the co-pilot. Hayun said he put the man in a choke hold and dragged him out of the cockpit. Passengers then restrained him with headphone cords and zip ties, per the Free Press account as relayed by the Free Beacon.

Israeli officials have framed it as terrorism, with no mention of Iran in the material here. Defense Minister Israel Katz, as quoted by the Times of Israel, called it "a jihadist terrorist attack attempt." Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu credited Indian pilot Captain Smit Machchhar with fighting back after being stabbed and opening the cockpit door.

Politico's headline says flydubai has suspended flights to and from Israel after the pilot stabbing. BBC News (US & Canada) ran a passenger's account of putting the attacker in a chokehold. Laura Ingraham's account posted that Trump praised the passenger who subdued the alleged attacker.

So the record has a stabbing, a cockpit fight, and a jihadist-attack label from Israel's defense minister. The Iran connection rests on what Trump says he is hearing.
