Chuck Schumer says stopping Donald Trump from seating "MAGA justices" is a core reason Democrats want the Senate back. C-SPAN posted the clip on X.
This is a new interview, and it sharpens Schumer's earlier court-focused midterm pitch. The interviewer asked whether he expects to handle additional nominations from the Trump White House if he runs the Senate. The interviewer then asked whether a Supreme Court vacancy nominee would get a vote in his Senate.
Schumer did not answer yes or no. He went straight to the majority. In the C-SPAN transcript, he said:
One of the reasons that we want to make sure do everything we can to take back the Senate, is not let Trump put such horrible justices, MAGA justices, on the Supreme Court and the lower costs.
The transcript renders the last word as "costs." The C-SPAN post on X gives it as "courts." The meaning is the same.
Note what is missing. He did not say a Trump nominee would get a hearing. He did not say one would be blocked by a specific mechanism. He tied the answer to winning the chamber first.
So the pitch to voters is plain: give Democrats the Senate, and Trump's court picks have a problem. You can decide whether that counts as an answer.
Schumer's office has not, in the material we have, clarified whether any nominee would get a vote.
