Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed accused Donald Trump of inciting terrorism over the Gretchen Whitmer kidnapping plot, Fox News reported.
The accusation deepens a Democratic primary Fox News says exposes a party divide. Sen. Tina Smith has endorsed El-Sayed, while Gretchen Whitmer has endorsed moderate Haley Stevens in the tight race.
El-Sayed, described by Fox News as a left-wing candidate, told the network the primary represents "the battle between the far-left and center-left establishment for the future of the Democratic Party."
El-Sayed told Fox News he wants "to show folks where the Democratic Party ought to go."
Whether El-Sayed's accusation against Trump rallies primary voters or hands Stevens an opening remains to be seen.
